Lucia Liu is an accomplished educator with over a decade of experience in mathematics, holding a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. As one of the faculty members who helped develop the Math Kangaroo curriculum, Lucia has been instrumental in shaping its educational approach. Since Math Kangaroo launched its online courses, she has taught a variety of group classes, private students, and webinars. Lucia views mathematics as the foundation of all academic subjects and is dedicated to imparting this perspective to her students through her passionate, supportive, and motivational teaching style.
- Webinar Contributor: Jacob Barrett
Jacob Barrett is a high school junior from Ridgefield, CT. He has participated in Math Kangaroo since first grade, consistently placing at the top in the state and earning national recognition. He is also captain of his school’s math team and has represented Connecticut at the national ARML competition. Beyond math, he is dedicated to volunteering with individuals with special needs, runs on his school’s cross country and track team, and manages his own math tutoring business.

- Students in grades 1-2 with limited or no math competition experience are invited to join the Exploring course.
- In this course, students will be introduced to 2D and 3D visualization as well as the problem-solving strategies of Draw a Picture, Find a Pattern, Make an Organized List, Build a Table, Spatial Thinking, Symmetry, Balance Equations, and Logical Reasoning through a mixture of Level 1-2 Kangaroo problems.
- The course will culminate in working through the entire 2022 Level 1-2 contest together as a group.
- For added challenge, the optional homework for weeks 2-9 will be an entire Math Kangaroo exam to build the students’ persistence and stamina for the actual competition.
- This webinar is planned to meet 10 times for 1 hour each.
- The number of participants is limited to 300 students.

- Webinar Presenter: Dr. Sarah Sagi
Dr. Sarah Sagi is a Math Kangaroo Faculty and Curriculum Expert with extensive experience in building Math Kangaroo’s online curriculum. Dr. Sagi has taught Math Kangaroo classes and webinars for 3 years and has coached elementary school math clubs to top honors in international math contests. She graduated from Harvey Mudd College and earned a PhD from UC San Diego in Biomedical Sciences. As a mother of four children, she values introducing alternative methods for solving challenging problems to help each student find their preferred tools. Her hobbies include Zumba, crochet, and walking.

Abhinav Vutukuri is a high school sophomore from Aurora, IL. He has competed in Math Kangaroo since third grade, collecting multiple state and national awards, and it is his first time as a Math Kangaroo TA. He has also competed in the AMC, AIME, and MathCounts, and is currently a captain of his school’s math and computer science teams. In his free time, he enjoys playing the violin and programming.

- This course is intense and fast-paced but fun at the same time.
- For added challenge, the optional homework for weeks 2-9 will be an entire Math Kangaroo exam to build the students’ persistence and stamina for the actual competition.

Ahdav Vijay is a sophomore at Seven Lakes High School, TX, with a strong background in competitive mathematics. He has participated in Math Kangaroo since 3rd grade and competes in AMC, AIME, UIL, TMSCA, and MathCounts. Ahdav coaches math and science teams at a local elementary school and is a member of the National Math Honor Society. His hobbies include Science Olympiad, violin, and badminton.

- Webinar Presenter: Mahmut Secilmis
Mahmut Secilmis is an experienced mathematics educator with sixteen years of teaching and tutoring across various disciplines, including Elementary Math, Middle School Math, ACT Math, SAT Math, Algebra, Geometry, and STEM subjects. He coaches students in math competitions such as Math Kangaroo and MathCounts and holds certifications in Math (Grades 6-12) and Gifted and Talented Education (K-12). Currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership, Mr. Secilmis focuses on innovative teaching techniques, including spiral assessments that have improved student success. His efforts earned him third place in the district for NWEA test performance in 2020 and fourth place for state test outcomes in 2021. Notably, one of his students won first place in the state MathCON competition and ranked 34th nationally.

Soham Dam is a High School Junior from Pittsburgh, PA. He has competed in Math Kangaroo since first grade, collecting several state and national awards. He also competes in many other math competitions and earned several accolades, most notably an honorable mention in the 2023 USA Junior Math Olympiad and placement in the top 40 individuals at ARML 2024. Aside from math, he is an avid piano player and also explores maps in his free time.

Dr. Koroleva is a Math Kangaroo Faculty with a PhD in applied mathematics from Harvard University. Van seeks to inspire students to discover their passion for math and science. She learned early in her career teaching and doing research with college students and scientists that curiosity and strong foundational skills are absolutely necessary for successful learning at higher levels. Currently, she enjoys teaching students of all ages, designing highly personalized curricula, and nurturing the inquisitive minds of her young children. She was drawn to Math Kangaroo by the shared interest of spreading the love of mathematics.

Bella is a high school junior from North Carolina. She has competed in Math Kangaroo twice, and has experience in other competitions, such as AIME and DMM. She enjoys painting and watching TV shows in her free time, and her favorite math subject is combinatorics + number theory.
